American Youth Orchestra (AYO) is an El Sistema-inspired orchestra in New York City that meets weekly to offer orchestral training to underserved children ages 7-25. AYO is in residence at IS 52 in Inwood, Manhattan. AYO students have participated in Sphinx Competitions, The National Take a Stand Festival sponsored by Los Angeles Philharmonic and his chief conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and collaborated in seminario with the Simón Bolivar Orchestra from Venezuela.
To unite disconnected musical communities through communal learning, develop artistic and personal excellence for the next generation of diverse citizens, and to inspire values such as inclusion character, discipline, and agency to achieve collective goals through peer-to peer learning and ensemble work.
